Australia vs India 2018: India are Favourites After Worst Year For Australia – Shane Warne
Former legendary spinner Shane Warne believes India are favorites for the forthcoming four-match Test series against Australia. It has been one of worst years in the Australian cricket folklore and they have touched a new low. Meanwhile, India is looking strong on paper. However, the tourists will still need to bring their best game to the table.
Indian batsmen had led the team down on the tour of England and they would be willing to turn the tables. Meanwhile, there is no denying the fact the Australian bowlers are not going to make the life of Indian batters any easier. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Nathan Lyon can get the job done for the Aussies.
Australia is not at its best.
On the other hand, Australian cricket has touched new low after the ball-tampering scandal. They lost both of their pivotal players in David Warner and Steve Smith for a year and since then it has been a difficult time for them.
“I don’t think it’s a do or die, it’s just another Test series, another big Test series in Australia,” he said.
“But if you think about the year 2018 that Australia has had, it’s been an ordinary one, probably one of the worst they’ve ever had for Australian cricket, so let’s hope they can play well in the Twenty20 series and beat India in the Test series.
Meanwhile, India is yet to savor success on the Australian soil in a red ball series. Thus, Warne believes it is the best chance for the visitors to win a series in Australia and he puts India as favorites.
“But I think India has got their best ever chance of beating Australia, here in Australia, that they’ve ever had, and I put them as favorites.
“It doesn’t mean they’re going to win but I think they’re going to be favorites.
“I don’t think they’ve ever been favorites here in Australia in a Test series but Australia aren’t playing that great at the moment and India are the best side in the world in Tests, so it’s going to be tough for the Aussies.”
The Australian team is not in the best of forms and they are going to have their work cut out against the potent Indian side. However, Australia will have home advantage whereas India’s overseas record isn’t promising. The visitors might be strong on paper, however, they need to show that they are also strong on the ground.
