Australia vs India 2018: Virender Sehwag Thrilled with Brisbane Game
Former India cricketer, Virender Sehwag is quite impressed with the rain-marred first game of the three-match T20I series between India and Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane. However, the hosts had taken the lead 1-0 after winning the match by four runs. Meanwhile, Australia posted 158 for four in 17 overs. The Men in Blue had to score 175, the revised total within 17 overs to win the game and draw the first blood, which eventually didn’t happen.
Australia failed to begin well at the Gabba
India, after winning the toss and asking the hosts to bat first did early damage, as Khaleel Ahmed removed D Arcy Short inside first six overs. During that span, Virat Kohli put down Aaron Finch’s catch off Jasprit Bumrah only to see him score a mere 27 in the first game.
In addition to, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell added some valuable 78 runs for the fourth wicket in the middle overs. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers who bagged with two, whereas, Khaleel Ahmed and Jasprit Bumrah picked a piece.
However, the rain had interruption the game in the middle, and the match got reduced to 17 overs per side. Australia managed to score 158 runs and India had to score 175 runs to win the game.
While chasing down the target, India lost their first wicket, as Jason Behrendorff got rid off Rohit Sharma. Shikhar Dhawan was the lone batsman who tried to finish off thing well but couldn’t do that, as Billy Stanlake had the better off him putting India under some pressure.
India succumbed under pressure
Later, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik tried to finish off things quickly but failed to do so. With India requiring 24 runs from the last two overs, an outstanding effort from Stoinis sealed the game in favour of the hosts by four runs.
Furthermore, Virender Sehwag is happy with the performance of India, as they had scored more than Australia but couldn’t win the match. It was a thrilling start, and he will expect much more throughout the series.
“India scoring more than Australia yet losing. Australia ke score par laga GST bhaari pad gaya. But a good thrilling game to start the series.”
