Australia-India Tests guarantee one thing at least, banters and more banters. Over the years we have seen players getting under their opposition’s skin more often than not. The situation didn’t change this time around as well. During the third Test at the MCG, Tim Paine and Rohit Sharma got involved in friendly banter. Though Paine began the talking, Rohit put an end to it by giving a cheeky reply.
If Rohit hits a six here, I will pick MI – Paine
On day two of the Boxing Day Test, Paine told Rohit that if he hits a six here, he will pick Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
“It’s always been a toss up for me between the RR & MI, who I support. If Rohit hits a six here, I am changing to Mumbai,” says Paine.
Though Rohit Sharma didn’t change his ways, he scored an unbeaten 63 in the first innings. However, Paine’s tactics of getting the better off Sharma didn’t work, as Australia failed to get his wicket. With him at the crease, Rohit helped India post 443 for seven dec. in the first innings.
Rohit comes up with a cheeky reply
Replying to what Paine was saying at that moment, Rohit Sharma gave a cheeky response during the post-day conference. Speaking to the media, the right-hander mentioned he first didn’t pay any attention to what Paine was saying. Though later he admitted, he joked with Rahane saying if Tim manages to score a ton at the ‘G’, he would speak to MI bosses for his recruitment in the IPL.
“I was hearing that but when I’m batting I just focus on the job at hand. But I had a chat with Ajinkya Rahane and I joked that if he (Paine) gets a hundred here, I will put in a word about him to my boss at Mumbai Indians and we’ll buy him. Looks like he’s a fan of Mumbai,”
Bumrah picks six-for at the MCG
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah picked his career-best six for 33 in the first innings. Furthermore, his efforts saw Australia getting all out on 151, trailing behind 292 runs. Later, Virat Kohli didn’t enforce the follow-on and asked his team to bat again.
