Murali Vijay’s fifth Test hundred along with Ajinkya Rahane’s unbeaten 75 put India on the driver’s seat at the end of day 1 of the second test at The Gabba Brisbane. When the stumps were drawn, India were in a strong position as the end the day on 311-4 in 83 overs. Rohit Sharma, who is batting on 26, is giving Rahane the company going into the second day of the test.

Vijay looked solid in his 213 ball vigil, in which he scored 144 runs with the help of 22 boundaries was the last man to be dismissed on the day when he decided to whack Nathan Lyon over his head and ended up in offering Nathan Lyon a catch. It was a great innings from The Monk who fell just a run short of his hundred in the second innings at Adelaide as he played with confidence and played balls on its merit

Earlier in the day after choosing to bat first, Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan put on India’s first 50 plus partnership in three years as the duo shared a 56 run partnership before Shikhar Dhawan got out trying to cut a short delivery which was way outside the off stump straight into the gloves of Brad Haddin for 24.

Cheteshwar Pujara looked solid in his 64 ball 18 before he was done in by an umpiring error courtesy Ian Gould who ruled Pujara out caught by Haddin off Josh Hazlewood, with the replays clearly indicated that the ball was deviated off his helmet. Virat Khli, who scored a twin century at Adelaide didn’t last long as he was caught behind off Hazlewood for 19 trying to cut a delivery close to his body.

Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazlewood were taken off the field due to minor injuries as the Aussies are finding it hard to play under the scorching heat. India made three changes to the team with skipper MS Dhoni, R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav coming in for Wriddhiman Saha, Karn Sharma and Mohammad Shami respectively.
