Australia go to tea on day 4 of the first test match at Adelaide at 139 for 1 in 38 overs with a lead of 212 over India. Resuming from 32-0 at Lunch, Aussies lost Chris Rogers to Karn Sharma as he tried to slog sweep him over the deep midwicket just to see himself caught by Rohit Sharma at mid wicket.
Opener David Warner, who scored 145 in the first innings remained unbeaten on 69 off 105 balls with the help of 7 fours and a six. Warner looked in omnios form as he had authority over both spin and pace as India kept on attacking with spinners without any rewards. Warner shares an unbroken partnership of 101 with Shane Watson who was batting on 33. Pacer Varun Aaron added some spice to the contest as he was dismissed by Varun Aaron just to come back with after the replays revealed that Aaron had nothing behind the bowling crease while delivering the ball. It triggered a spat between the players from both the sides on the field.
Lunch Report
Australia ended the first session on the fourth day of the first test against India with a lead of 105 as they were going strong on 32-0 along with a 73 run first innings lead. Chris Rogers was batting on 19 along with David Warner who remained not out on 13.
Earlier in the day, resuming from an overnight score of 367-5, both Rohit Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha struggled in the first half an hour of the day’s play as Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris looked threatening by some accurate bowling. Rohit, in particular looked off colour as he was beatn by a number of times by both the bowlers. Saha looked solid in his approach and scored the first boundary of the day in the seventh over. Rohit once again threw his wicket away after getting a start to a lazy shot which was caught by the bowler Nathan Lyon himself for an 89 ball 43.
Soon Karn Sharma was castled by Peter Siddle for 4 which allowed Mohammad Shami to join Saha at the crease. Shami looked tentative since the word go as he kept on swinging his bat to the ball. Saha was adjudged caught at slips off Lyon for 25 with the replays clearly indicated that there was no edge from his bat. Ishant Sharma too followed a ball later leaving Shami and Varun Aaron to reduce India’s deficit. Some lusty blows from Shami before he was caught by Watson off Siddle took India to 444, 73 short of Aussies’ first innings score.
Virat Kohli scored a deserving ton for India and Nathan Lyon was the pick of the Aussie bowlers with a spell of 5-134 in 36 overs.
