Rohit Sharma is expected to join the Indian team (who have won the T20I series), for the four-match Test series against Australia. He had not travelled with the team because he was claimed to be not fully fit after sustaining a hamstring injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. As per the latest development, the opening batsman is recovering well, but he is likely to miss the first two Tests because of the quarantine rule.

There was hullabaloo around Rohit’s injury after Virat Kohli came out openly to lash out at the lack of communication between the board and him about the batting mainstay’s recovery.

But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was quick to clear the fuss and stated that the hitman would go under fitness assessment test on December 11 and only after which it will be decided that whether he would join Team India in Australia.

As of now, sources have told India Today that Rohit is recovering well from the hamstring injury and looking set to fly to Australia.

This is big news for India because they will be missing Virat Kohli in the last three Tests. The Indian captain has taken paternity leave to be with his wife, Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child in India.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma missed a couple of league stage matches after he sustained a hamstring injury. But he returned to play the playoffs and even played in the grand finale, where he struck a match-winning half-century to take Mumbai Indians to the fifth title win.

Thus, it had raised questions if the MI skipper was fit, why he didn’t fly with the Indian team. The BCCI cleared the air over the issue, saying Rohit had to head back to India from the UAE to attend to family illness. Rohit has been working on his recovery and fitness at the NCA since landing in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the Test series will begin from December 17 with the first-ever pink ball Test between India and Australia in Adelaide.
