Resuming from an overnight score of 354-6, Australia had a surprise in store early on day 2 as their skipper Michael Clarke walked out to bat along with Steve Smith, who remained unbeaten at the end of day 1. The Aussies got off to a flier as they scored as many as six boundaries in their first five overs.
When everything was going in their way, the rain interuptted after the first 9 overs leaving Smith 2 runs short of his boundary.
He eventually achieved it when the play resumed 2 hours later.Clarke raced away to 98 before rain played spoilsport again. Clarke reached his milestone straightaway when the play resumed and the Aussies.
The Aussies were going strong at 473-6 after 111 overs before rain stopped play again. When the play resumed at 1730 local time, all eyes were on an Australian declaration which never happened as the bad light once again forced a early stumps on day 2. Australia end day 2 at 517-7 in 120 overs. Smith remained unbeatan on 162 runs with Clarke was the lone wicket out of the day as he swept Karn Sharma straight to Chetshwar Pujara at square-leg for 128.
