Australia began their home summer on a note of complete positivity, as the Australian batsmen simply decimated the Kiwi bowlers. On a reasonably flat Gabba deck, the Aussies batted first and made full use of the conditions. David Warner notched up yet another fluent ton while Joe Burns, in his first innings as an opener scored an impressive 71. Making a comeback after two years, Usman Khawaja grabbed the opportunity with both hands by scoring a rapid ton. Steve Smith too looked solid for his 41*. The Aussies ended the day on 389-2 in 88 overs. The hosts surely have put themselves in a position of sheer dominance.

I’m going to be the first to say it. @stevesmith49‘s aggressive flourish as he leaves the ball is ridiculous #ausvsnz #cricket9
