Australia vs Pakistan 2016/17: Steven Smith Puts Aside Pay Issues To Focus On Wahab Riaz’s Pace
Ahead of the much-anticipated Test series between Australia-Pakistan, the pay issue in Cricket Australia have again risen but Steven Smith is keen to concentrate on his preparations and fast-bowler Wahab Riaz, who comes charging down at 150 kph, as a day before the start of the Test, Smith made it clear he wants to concentrate on work and not the pay issues.
“Wahab Riaz is charging in at 150kph – the last thing I want to think about is whether I am being paid too much,” Smith said.
The thing is Steven Smith cannot afford to neglect the upcoming challenges coming his way as another loss can really put his captaincy under jeopardy and he could be axed if he fails to deliver this time. Smith does not have the luxury to think about the external factors and has to come up with something productive.
But still, he commented on the current system and said, “I think that is the right way forward.
“But at the moment I am letting the ACA handle that. I am worried about this Test match.
“We have to look after everyone in the game,” Smith said.
“I am sure the ACA and CA are handling it. They both want the right thing for the game going forward. I am sure we will come to an agreement.”
It has also been learnt skipper Smith and vice-captain David Warner have played a central role in having talks with the board on the pay issue.
The first Test between Australia and Pakistan begins from December 15 at Brisbane, which’ll be a day-night affair.
