On 27th November 2014 came up a tragic news of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes passing away, two days later after he was struck on the back of his head by a bouncer in a Sheffield Shield game.
On Sunday, Australia went for a low-key approach and wore a black armband around their sleeves to pay respect to their very own Phil on his second death anniversary. The baggy green payed tribute to him in the best manner by defeating South Africa in the Day & Night Test by seven wickets.
South Australian cricketers too wore the armbands in the Sheffield Shield game against Victoria in Melbourne.
“We’ll have something planned as a team quietly, but nothing massive,” South Australian captain Travis Head said.
Hughes was 25 years old when he drew his last breath on this day, three days prior to his 26th birthday. The incident was termed tragic as even after wearing a helmet, a wrong judgment from the left-handed batsman caused grief among the cricket fraternity.
