Steve Smith skips second training session with thigh problem

The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) on Monday announced their squad for the ODI series against South Africa. The rested Steve Smith made a comeback to the squad to lead the team. Three pacers namely Daniel Worrall, Joe Mennie and Chris Tremain have been given a go for the first time in place of rested Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood. Along with Starc and Hazelwood, the selectors have also rested the all-rounder Mitchell march while Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon have been dropped. Adam Zampa replaces the latter one.

The Australian tea added an extra pacer in the squad keeping in mind the condition there in South Africa.

The chief selector Rod Marsh expressed his views over the selection of the pace trio and said.

“Chris, Joe, and Daniel all had terrific summers last year and have also impressed us during the recent Australia A series with consistent performances,

“They are young players with a bright future who thoroughly deserve their selection and we look forward to seeing them work with John Hastings and Scott Boland, who have both performed well for Australia since returning from injury.” He concluded

Australia will play their first match against Ireland in Benoni on September 27 before kicking off the five ODIs series against South Africa starting September 30 in Centurion.
