Watch: Australian Teenager Smashes Record Six Sixes In An Over

Australian teenager Oliver Davies stormed into the record books after smashing six sixes in over en-route to a stunning double century. The Sydney-based youngster achieved the feat on the first day of the ongoing  Under-19 National Championships in Adelaide.

Representing NSW Metro, Davies smashed a staggering 17 sixes to blow away Northern Territory at Glandore Oval. His knock ended after he amassed 207 runs off just 115 balls. He reached his century off 74 deliveries and took only 39 more balls to get to his double-ton.

En-route to his second century of the game, he smashed 36 runs in an over. Off-spinner Jack James was at the receiving end of Davies’ onslaught as each delivery of the 40th over was deposited into the stands. The exploit helped Davies earn himself a little place in the history books

It was the most runs ever taken from a single over in the history of the U19 Championships.

“After the first two sixes I had it in the back of my head I wanted to give it a crack and it paid off at the end,” said Davies, NSW Metro’s captain.

“I was trying to target (the area) from forward square to cow corner and I was just getting down on the back leg, almost before it was even bowled, and trying to slog sweep them over mid-wicket,” he added.

Riding on their skipper’s knock, NSW thrashed Northern Territory by 168 runs. Davies also picked up a wicket as NSW bowled out their opponents for just 238.

The most sixes ever struck by a single batter in an international 50-over game is 16. Rohit Sharma, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle jointly hold the record. On the other hand, Sir Garfield Sobers, Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh are among the few players to have struck six sixes in an over.

Davies’ knock was also the first one-day double-century ever scored in the U19 competition and the first across all formats since Jason Krejza scored one in 2001-02. Davies’ knock contained 14 fours as NSW Metro amassed 406 for 4 in the allotted 50 overs.
