In a disturbing news coming from the cricket field, Victoria Bushrangers wicketkeeper Sam Harper has been hospitalised after being hit on the head by Jake Lehmann’s bat during a Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at Adelaide Oval.
The mishap happened when Harper was standing up to the stumps to the bowling of spinner Jon Holland. Lehmann, looking to hit a short ball to leg-side, struck Harper in his follow through. Harper, who was wearing a helmet when he received the blow, was floored as soon as he was struck before the players and medical staff quickly rushed to help him.
The 20-year-old was then taken off the ground before it was confirmed the wicketkeeper was conscious and talking.

The unfortunate incident brought back the memories of the freak injury that Peter Nevill suffered during the last edition of Big Bash League (BBL). The Australia wicketkeeper also had to leave the field mid-way after being hit on the face by Brad Hodge’s bat. Nevill was struck on the face when Hodge failed to keep hold of his bat while swinging wildly to a Thisara Perera delivery and the bat flew backwards in Nevill’s direction before hitting him square on the face.
