The newly appointed Pakistan’s ODI captain Babar Azam kept his view on PCB’s idea to tour England to play the three-match Test and T20I series in August. The Board has opined that 25 players would travel through charted planes provided by England Cricket Board (ECB).

Earlier, ECB had given a detailed visual presentation to PCB on how they will offer a secure and safe environment to Pakistani players in England. The PCB CEO Wasim Khan had informed that the board was impressed with ECB’s proposal, but the final decision will be taken after consenting the players.

Babar Azam is hopeful for the tour, but he wishes that Board doesn’t comprise player’s health. He has shown faith in his board to take the right call.

“Luckily, that decision-making is the responsibility of the Pakistan Cricket Board,” Babar said in a video call. “I have complete faith and trust in the PCB and I am confident before making any decisions, they will ensure the health and safety of their players is not compromised. I have read the PCB will take us into confidence. So, I am looking forward to that briefing session. At the end of the day, the environment needs to be safe and secure as no event or match is bigger than life.”

My family would be worried: Babar Azam

The 25-year-old Azam acknowledged that the cricket has to resume at some point despite the COVID-19, but he admitted that his family would be worried about his travelling.

“Honestly, my family will be more worried than me but if the PCB tells me that it’s safe to go, I will definitely travel. Look, you need to consider UK-related Covid-19 facts: cases reported and deaths. So, if people are scared and worried about Covid-19, they will naturally be nervous traveling into a territory that has one of the highest reported cases and casualties. But, at the same time, I completely understand and accept normal services also need to resume,” the talented batsman asserted.

The venues for the series have still not been fixed, but ECB has initially proposed to host the three-match Test series in Manchester and South Hampton. Later on, venues for the three-match T20 series will also be finalized.
