Somerset has managed to break a brilliant deal for the upcoming T20 Championship. They have signed the world-class batsman from Pakistan Babar Azam for the major part of the tournament. He is currently the number one-ranked batsman in the ICC T20I International Rankings Chart.
Pakistan has always relied on Babar Azam, who can bat sensibly throughout the innings in 50-over matches. He also made a tremendous turnaround in the T20 format as well, which saw him acquiring headlines for breaking quite a few records in the recent past.
Babar Azam is a proved performer:
Speaking of the signing the Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry quoted that they are pretty excited with the signing, as they got the world-class player in their ranks. They believe that his presence will help the team.
“To be able to sign a player of the calibre of Babar Azam is tremendously exciting. He is a proven performer at the very highest level and that is highlighted by the fact that he is the top rated international T20 batsman in the world.

“Obviously, everyone wants to sign a world-class performer, but we feel that continuity of selection is equally important. For us, it is about securing the services of someone as talented as Babar Azam for more than just a handful of fixtures.”
Looking forward to the new challenge – Babar Azam
Meanwhile, the flamboyant batsman is happy to get the signing by Somerset. He wants to perform for the team in the different challenges and hoping to get some good memories. Babar Azam also loves to put some smiles on the face of Somerset fans, which he learnt from Azhar Ali.

”I am looking forward to the new challenge that playing T20 cricket in England will bring,” he said. I have heard good things about Somerset from Azhar Ali. And, I want to play a part in the Club winning matches. And also, I know that Somerset get good support and I hope that I can give them something to cheer about this year,” Azam said as per The Cricketer.
He is the second overseas player for the team after signing the fast bowler Jerome Taylor of Windies Cricket Team. The stylish batsman is available for all 14 of their group games in the competition and the quarter-finals if required.
His participation in the final of the tournament will be decided during that time, as per the International commitments of him. Recently, he smashed a 63-ball Century against Leicestershire in a tour match.
