Bangladesh Cricket Board said that they have scrapped one test match against Afghanistan to concentrate more on white-ball cricket ahead of the all-important ODI world cup later this year in India. Bangladesh is scheduled to play three ODIs, three T20, and two tests of which one was reduced in the revised schedule.

Bangladesh will look to have good preparation coming into the Asia Cup 2023 and 2023 ODI World Cup as they have done exceptionally well in the sub-continental conditions. In the recent ICC tournament, Bangladesh had a chance of making the knockouts of the 2022 T20 world cup but eventually fell out of favour.

Speaking to the media, about the reason behind scrapping the test match against Afghanistan, BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus said that the schedule was hectic and they want some time to be better prepared for the high-octane event in India

“We will play one Test along with T20Is and ODIs. There were two Tests but we have reduced it to one because our schedule is very tight (ahead of the next World Cup). We will play the other Test at some other time but for now, we are just playing one Test,” Jalal Yunus said.

Speaking on the team’s preparation for the event, Yunus said that they will wait for the schedule to know more about the kind of venue they’re going to play in India and plan accordingly to the conditions in the forthcoming months.

“Look, the schedule will be prepared by ICC with the cooperation of India as they are the host. We are waiting for the schedule as we are yet to know in which venue we will playing and when we get that we can understand where we stand.

Yunus said that the practice camp will be organized based on the schedule and it would be great to get the schedule as soon as possible and revealed that the team has less time for preparation as they have Asia Cup 2023 in September and believes the ODI matches they will play ahead of the tournament will act as good preparation for their side going in 2023 ODI World Cup.

“I don’t think if we cannot prepare abroad then that will be a big problem for us. All the ODI matches that we will be playing ahead of the World Cup we will consider that as part of our preparation for the mega tournament,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will start their preparation in England playing three-match ODI series against Ireland starting on May 9 at Chelmsford.
