BAN vs AUS 2017: Australia Team Bus Attacked with Stones, Window Broken; Security Enhanced

The Australian team were put in a spot of bother due to a security incident that took place while they were heading back to the team hotel in Bangladesh at the end of the first day’s play in the second Test match at Chittagong.

The minor scare was because of a small rock that was thrown on to the bus on Monday which saw the window getting broken. Also, no injuries to any of the players or the support staff were reported. The journey back to the team hotel was a short one as the players’ residence was quite close to the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Cricket Australia’s security manager Sean Carroll has confirmed about the incident, and they requested the local police to investigate into the issue.

“On route back to the hotel last night a window on the Australian team bus was broken. No one was injured in the incident,” said Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Security Manager.

“Team security personnel are currently in discussion with local authorities while they investigate the cause, which is believed to have come from a small rock or stone.

“Bangladesh authorities are taking the incident seriously, and security has been increased on the route.”

Carroll has also expressed his satisfaction over the security that is being provided to the team despite the incident.

“To date, we have been happy with the security measures that have been in place, and we are comfortable with the response from the Bangladesh authorities and the increased security presence we have been provided in light of the incident,” he said.

It is believed that there are a bunch of local kids who are throwing stones onto the passing vehicles and the incident saw an increased security presence on Tuesday to ensure no such activities happen during the remainder of the tour.

The police are investigating the matter, and a heavily armed convoy escorted the team to the ground. Bangladesh is the fastest growing cricketing nation in the world, but the fans and public should be more responsible when other teams tour the country, as these incidents could tarnish the image of a cricket-crazy nation.
