The Australian cricket team escaped a major injury blow to their opening batsman David Warner as a delivery from team mate Josh Hazelwood struck him on the neck during an intra-squad practice match.
The Australian cricket team is preparing for their tour of Bangladesh and is playing a 3-day practice match between a David Warner XI and Steve Smith XI. David Warner was struck on the side of the neck while attempting a hook shot and had to retire hurt on 2.He is set to miss the final day of the practice match as a precautionary measure. Though the good news for all the cricket fans is that he passed a concussion test later on and is fit to play in the 2-day practice match of their Bangladesh tour.
However, Pat Cummins had earlier confirmed at the end of second day’s play that David Warner was fine but was feeling a bit stiff and sore. He said,
“It’s good that Davey’s fine, He’s a little bit stiff and sore, but just speaking to him then, he’s all fine. It’s only a practice match so he might or might not be out there tomorrow but he seems to be in pretty good shape.”
The Australian coaching staff, however, have opted to pay caution and allowed David Warner to miss the final day of the practice match. The Australian cricket team will be back in action after a disastrous Champions Trophy campaign, as they were bowed out of the tournament without even qualifying for the semi-finals.
The coaching staff also believes that the incidence could leave the opening batsman short of on-field batting time.
The Australian team is set to leave for a two-match Test series in Bangladesh starting from 27th August (Friday). However, they play a two-day practice match starting on 22nd August.
