BAN vs AUS 2017: Practice Game for Australia at Fatullah in Jeopardy after Incessant Rain Ruins Conditions

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday admitted the fact that they are still not sure about the practice match scheduled to be held in Fatullah for the Australian team ahead of the Test series against the hosts.

They were keeping their fingers crossed and said the fate of the match is in the hands of Cricket Australia delegation and it will be known after their inspection of the conditions in Fatullah on August 21.

BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that they were trying their level best to make conditions feasible for the practice match scheduled to on 22nd and 23rd August.

Reports have emerged in the local media that the game has already been called off, but Chowdhury dismissed those reports and said they are still trying their best to get cricket rolled on the field on those two days.

“We are trying our level best to prepare the Fatullah ground,” Nizamuddin told reporters on Sunday. “Due to incessant rain, it was not possible for us but as there is the sunshine we are putting our all out effort,” he added. “A delegation of the visitors will visit Fatullah tomorrow [Monday], and if they agree after seeing the present condition, we will have a practice match on August 22 and 23.

“But if the Fatullah ground is not ready, then they are happy to avail the practice facility in the academy premises. We had proposed them about some alternative venues for the game, but they are not interested in going through it,’ he added.

The Aussies arrived in Dhaka on August 18 amidst heavy security for a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The two matches will be hosted by Dhaka from 27th to 31st August while the 2nd one will be staged in Chittagong from September 4 to 8.

Australia was scheduled to play a practice match ahead of their series at Fatullah, but heavy rainfall has reduced the chances of it hosting the game. Despite the water being dried up, the bad smell caused due to the water logging have made the Aussies think differently.

BCB had given other alternatives to the Aussies, but they were not satisfied with it. They were asked to avail the services at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in Savar, but they decided against it due to the distance from their team hotel. They were also given the proposal of the ULAB field in Mohammadpur, but they were not happy with the facilities.

Australia wanted to play at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur where the first Test will take place, but the BCB understandably didn’t agree with the opening Test scheduled to be held in less than a week’s time.
