Bangladesh has announced its squad for the ODIs against India which will be held in Mirpur. The Bangladeshis have made two changes to their squad that whitewashed Pakistan recently. The injured Mahmudullah makes way for backup wicketkeeper Litton Das; while Abul Hasan makes way for the teenaged Mustafizur Rahman.
The crux of the squad remains the same as Mashrafe Mortaza will gear up to take on the Indians after thrashing Pakistan. However, Mahmudullah’s injury is a serious concern for the hosts as he was in sparkling form before an injury ruled him out of the series.
Rubel Hossain, who was rested for the tests as a precautionary measure figures in the ODI setup, thus clearing all the doubts about his injury. From the pace front, the trio of Taskin, Mortaza and Rubel will be a part of the playing XI. The three had bowled very well against India in the quarter final of the ICC World Cup 2015.
Elias Sunny, is the sole specialist spinner in the squad as Shakib braces himself for the all rounder’s role. However, Sunny may not be a guaranteed starter in the playing XI as Mushfiqur Rahim recovers from a nursing finger. If Rahim can’t keep wickets, then it will be Litton Das who will find a place in the XI. As a result, Shakib will have to double up as the main spinner of the side. To compliment Shakib, Nasir Hossain and Saumya Sarkar can be the part time options.
All in all, it is a squad which is a settled unit. The Indians, who made it to the semi finals of the World Cup, can expect a stiff competition from the hosts, who are out to prove a point.
