Bangladesh Cricketer Arrested For Breaking Country’s Internal Laws
Bangladesh left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny has been arrested by the local police for allegedly breaching the internal laws of the country after the cricketer uploaded photos of his girlfriend on social media. The cricketer was arrested after a raid was conducted at his home in Dhaka, following a complaint filed by cricketer’s girlfriend nearly two weeks ago.
“She said Sunny opened up a fake Facebook account of hers and posted their personal photos, which she found offensive and defamatory.
“We have arrested him and sent him to the court, seeking to take him into custody for five days for questioning,” Jamaluddin Mir., the local police chief told AFP.
If found guilty, Sunny could face punishment of 14 years in jail or a fine of 10 million taka.
Sunny is the third Bangladesh cricket in past few years to be arrested by police as earlier Rubel Hossain and Shahadat Hossain were also arrested in similar kind of charges.
Sunny has played a total of 16 ODIs and 10 T20Is for Bangladesh. He was reported for suspect action during the 2016 T20 Word cup and again in the Bangladesh Premier League last year. He is currently playing domestic cricket to get a place back in the national team.
