Bangladesh players fined for on-field altercation, Buttler reprimanded!
Bangladesh captain Mashrafae Mortaza and batsman Sabbir Rahman have been fined 20% of their match fees following the on-field ugly altercation with the England captain Jos Butler. Both of them found themselves involving in an ugly spat with England captain, match referee Javgal Srinath took the note of the incident and thus, fined both the players.
“Both the Bangladesh players were found to have breached Article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an international match” an ICC official statement reads.
The England captain who was the second party in the incident was also called for the hearing but he escaped a fine as he was officially reprimanded by the match referee.
The incident happened when umpires turned down an LBW appeal against Jos Butler, the Bangladesh players were quick to review the decision. The third umpire overturned the decision which created a wave of happiness in Bangladesh camp. According to England captain Jos Butler, the Bangladesh players went ‘over the top’ while celebrating, thus causing the on-field spat between Bangladesh players and Jos Butler.
Javgal Srinath, the match referee for the game said “The Bangladesh players overstepped in their celebration of Jos Buttler’s wicket, which prompted an inappropriate reaction from the dismissed batsman and required the on-field umpires’ intervention. We all want to see the high intensity on the field of play, but only as long as it is not provoking or antagonising or disrespecting the opponent.”
According to the new rules, one demerit point has been added to the account of all the three players. Sabbir Rahman has to vigilant in the upcoming matches if he is reported for the same case in next 24 months, then he can even face suspension. He was last reprimanded for the on-field ugly clash in the first ODI against Afghanistan which Bangladesh won and kicked off the series on a winning note.
Both the team will now lock horns in the final and deciding ODI of the series on October 12.
