Bangladesh Vs Australia 2017: Australia Likely To Opt A Horses For Courses Policy
Australia’s string of embarrassing losses continued in Asia, as the side got smashed by a charged up Bangladesh outfit in Mirpur a few days ago.
For the Kangaroos, there now remain serious doubts over their ability to win overseas. The Aussies have now lost in India, Sri Lanka, UAE, and England, and it has been a long while since they won a series away from home in the mentioned nations.
As per the think tank in that troubled Australian dressing room, the likely policy to succeed now is to adopt horses for courses approach. That was evident when injured pacer Josh Hazlewood got recently replaced by the left arm spinner, Steven O’ Keefe.
On usual days, the Aussies would react to an injury issue by calling up a pacer, but the move to fall back to the otherwise ignored O’Keefe speaks about the tactics of the visitors. Coach Darren Lehmann elaborated this.
“You are trying to look for that all-round player that can actually adapt in all conditions so you don’t have to keep chopping and changing with horses for courses,” the coach said. “You want to pick a side, a group, that can play together for five to ten years if that is possible and that is what we are trying to do. “For us it is a long-term view. Obviously, you have still got to get results going your way.”
Speaking that the team for the home Ashes was well set, he said, “It is important to have a settled group where you possibly can.” “Obviously the result n Dhaka didn’t go our way so we have to think what we are doing there and think how we want to go about it. “But for the Ashes, we are pretty clear on where we are going and who want to play in that scenario in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and all of those wickets. “Most of the guys obviously know the Australian conditions really well.”
