Bangladesh have exceeded expectations in the Asia Cup T20 tournament by beating teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka. They will now meet the in-form team India in the finals tomorrow at Mirpur. It promises to be a mouthwatering contest between two teams who have played some outstanding cricket in the tournament. India won four matches while Bangladesh confidence will be sky high.
Here we look at the 5 players to watch out in the India- Bangladesh finals
- Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has been the standout batsmen for India in the Asia Cup T20 tournament so far. In the first match against Bangladesh he failed to score big but against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Kohli came and played two match-winning knocks which helped India to reach the finals. His technique and temperament has been worth watching. In the finals tomorrow, he needs to play a bigger role and play another match winning knock. When India played Bangladesh in the first match, Kohli played a rash stroke which led to his dismissal. Kohli has the ability to really show his class in big matches.
Mahmuduallah has been the standout batsmen for Bangladesh in this tournament so far. In the first match against India, he came in the lower order and could not do much. In the next three matches against UAE, Sri Lanka and Pakistan he came at number 6 in the batting order and played crucial knocks. He played a cameo knock against Pakistan which helped Bangladesh to reach the finals of the tournament. The Bangladesh team must think to bring him up the order so that he can play more balls which would help the home team a lot in the finals against a dominant Indian side. He puts the opponent team under pressure by playing cricketing shots.
- Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has been in mixed bag form in the ongoing Asia Cup 2016. When India played Bangladesh in the first match, Rohit Sharma played a match winning knock of 83 and helped India to reach a competitive total. In the next two matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, he failed to score any big runs. In the last match against UAE, he regained his confidence back scoring 39 off 26 balls. India’s opening stand in the finals will be crucial. Rohit Sharma needs to come again with a big innings to help the Indian team to put pressure on the Bangladesh side. He needs to play with a positive approach and attack the Bangladesh bowling.
- Mashrafe Mortaza
Mashrafe Mortaza the captain of the Bangladesh team has led the team from the front. He has put aggressive fields and put pressure on the opponents. In the match against Pakistan, he came ahead of a proper batsman and scored two important boundaries which almost sealed the match for the home team. His bowling change in the tournament has been spot on. Before the finals, the captain looks cool and calm. Mortaza has to be at his best if Bangladesh has any chance of beating the strong the Indian team.
- Ashish Nehra
Ashish Nehra’s performance in Asia Cup T20 tournament has been brilliant. He has given the Indian team early breakthroughs to put pressure on the opposition. In the previous match against UAE, he was rested. He has picked 5 wickets in 3 matches but his economy in the tournament has been also good. He has swung the ball and has not given the batsmen to score runs with ease. With the finals coming up tomorrow against Bangladesh, his role is to pick early wickets to put pressure on the Bangladesh batsmen. Nehra’s line and length in the tournament has been brilliant and the batsmen have been not able to play big strokes.
