Batsmen who never lost a match after scoring century

There have been very few players in the cricketing history who never lost a match after giving tremendous efforts particularly with scoring a century.

Here we look at the list of batsmen who have never found themselves on the losing team after scoring a century.

Alec Stewart:

Alec Stewart is the most capped English Test cricketer of all time. Stewart was a specialist opening batsman, who was actually recognized as the superior wicketkeeper and who batted with an excellent exposure. As a wicketkeeper-batsman, he averaged 34.92 from 82 Tests, higher than many of his contemporaries in his days and many of the current batch of international wicket-keepers. This stylish right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman scored 15 Test tons among which 7 hundreds saw England win the Test and 8 were drawn.

Geoffrey Boycott:

If ever a defense seemed to be impenetrable it was that of legendary Yorkshireman Geoff Boycott when his mind used to fix on staying in. The features of his forward shots were the distance he managed to thrust forward behind a big left pad, how low his head used to be when searching for signs of movement from the ball, and its balance and compactness. In a prolific and somewhat controversial playing career from 1962 to 1986, Boycott established himself as one of England’s most successful opening batsmen. The legendary Englishman scored 22 Test tons where 10 matches were won and 12 were drawn.

Walter Hammond:

Wally Hammond was an exciting cricketer, probably more so for the hint of an almost Olympian aloofness. In a nutshell with over 50,000 first-class runs and a batting average of 58.45 in Tests, Hammond was an undisputed successor to Jack Hobbs as England’s premier batsman.  Hammond was considered to be the best English batsman of the 1930s by commentators and those with whom he played. He scored 22 Test centuries where 10 matches were won and 12 were drawn.

Gordon Greenidge:

Gordon Greenidge stands for cricketing nobility. He had half of West Indies’ prolific opening partnership with Desmond Haynes and still today people speak in awe of his brilliance. The attacking style seemed cemented in his genes! Brooding and massively destructive, the power of Gordon Greenidge’s strokeplay on any given day looked to bear a direct relationship to the degree that he limped when running between the wickets. Gordon scored 19 Test centuries where 14 of them were won and 5 were drawn.

Ian Bell:

Once described by Dayle Hadlee as the best 16-year old he had ever seen, Ian Bell had been earmarked for greatness long before he was drafted onto the England tour of New Zealand in 2001-02, as cover for the injured Mark Butcher. This right-handed batsman is well known for his cover drive on the off side. Ian has scored 22 Test tons where 15 led the team to victory while the other 7 were witness of matches been drawn.

Graeme Smith:

Mighty, Muscular and Meaty – the three ‘M’s to describe Graeme Smith, who looms even larger than all that as South Africa’s colossus of a captain. His achievements as a batsman are quite significant, but the most important monument to his career is the fact that it was Smith under whom the confidence of South Africans, both within and outside of the national team and its structures, has been rebuilt. Smith has an outstanding record of Test centuries and the wins. Graeme scored 27 centuries in Tests among which 18 matches were won and 9 were drawn.

Adam Gilchrist:

Batting in first or seventh position, wearing whites or coloreds, Adam Gilchrist happens to be the symbolic heart of Australia’s steamrolling agenda and the most exhilarating cricketer of the modern age. He was simultaneously a cheerful throwback to more innocent times, a flap-eared country boy who decided to walk when given not out in a World Cup semi-final and swatted his second ball for six while sitting on a Test pair. While you describe his batting philosophy, it’s quite simple – “just hit the ball”. Gilchrist has been rightly called “one of the most destructive batsmen the game of cricket has ever seen”. Gilchrist scored 16 ODI centuries where Australia has won all of these matches. He was the most vital name in the Australian team with such tremendous records.

Saurav Ganguly:

Saurav Ganguly is regarded as one of India’s most stylish left-handed batsmen and successful captains in modern cricket. The Prince of Kolkata has given priceless memories with his batting and leadership skills for India. Ganguly was famous for his aggressive style of leadership and was also instrumental in bringing the change in Indian cricket team’s mentality during his tenure as a captain.  Out of the 16 Test tons scored by Saurav, 12 matches were drawn and 4 led to the team’s victory.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni:

MS Dhoni has several records for his intelligent and clever captaincy. But, he is blessed with an amazing record which only a few cricketers have achieved till now. His saga of successes is plentiful despite recent controversies regarding his captaincy, but this particular record provides a snapshot of the path through which a brilliant star has risen across the skies of Indian cricket. Out of the 6 centuries Mahi scored in international Test cricket, India have won four of those Test matches and the remaining two Tests were drawn. India has never lost a Test whenever Dhoni has scored a century.
