Batting Coach Sanjay Bangar Should Also Be Assistant Coach, Anil Kumble To BCCI 1

India head coach Anil Kumble has reportedly told Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to appoint batting coach Sanjay Bangar also as the assistant coach of the team.

Kumble, on Sunday (May 21), had met the BCCI office-bearers and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) in Hyderabad.

So far, the only news that was doing the round was that the meeting was primarily held to discuss the pay issues of the Indian players, who were not happy with the new pay structure despite their retainer fees being doubled earlier this year. Kumble, on behalf of the team, urged the board for a steep pay hike for centrally contracted players.

But a report in India Today has claimed that the ongoing pay issue was not the only agenda of the meeting that took place in Hyderabad on the day of this year’s Indian Premier League final.

The news outlet has reported that they have accessed Kumble’s detailed presentation to the board officials in which he has made several demands including the promotion of Bangar.

The former India leg-spinner, who was appointed Team India head coach last year, has done a phenomenal job so far, overseeing five successive Test series victories over West Indies, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia.

Under him, the Men in Blue also won the One-Day International series against New Zealand and England in addition to a T20 International series win over the latter. The Virat Kohli-led side is currently gearing up to defend their ICC Champions Trophy title in England which will start on June 1.

The report further claimed that the presentation titled, “Coaching set up: Indian Cricket Team” is designed to help the Indian team dominate across all formats and under all conditions. Kumble’s presentation further stated that the BCCI, the Indian senior team, the selection committee, the National Cricket Academy and the Indian A and under-19 teams need to be in sync to achieve the ultimate goal of world domination.

Coming to the coaching staff of the senior team, Kumble has introduced a structured hierarchy in the support staff with everyone reporting to the head Coach. The assistant coach, meanwhile, will be given the role to supervise the fielding, fast bowling, training assistant, computer analyst, strength and conditioning coach and the physio.

“Given that the Head Coach’s responsibilities span external, strategic planning and delivering on the long-term plan, he needs support in terms of ensuring that the day to day operations are carried on as per plan. To facilitate this, suggest Sanjay Bangar should be the Assistant Coach apart from his role as Batting Coach,” the presentation stated.

Kumble has also chalked out the role for the National Cricket Academy and India A team.
