A magnificent unbeaten knock of 69 by Jordan Silk earned his side Sydney Sixers the pride and the bragging rights of their city as they defeated Sydney Thunder by 4 wickets in the nail biting Sydney derby.
Chasing a target of 155, Sydney Sixers got off to a bad start as they lost Michael Lumb in the second over of their innings. Skipper Nic Maddinson and Riki Wessels steadied the ship to some extent but in the anxiety to up the run-rate, Maddinson lost his wicket to Josh Lalor. Ed Cowan, who played his first match of BBL 04, got out on a duck. Sixers kept losing wickets at regular intervals and at one stage were on the verge of losing this match. With 56 runs needed of the last 3 overs, Jordan Silk, who took a blinder earlier in the day, played a gem of an innings and guided his team to an unbelievable victory.
Earlier after being put into bat, Jacques Kallis and Aiden Blizzard stole the show for Sydney Thunders with the bat as the duo scored half-centuries to take the Thunders total to 154. Cameron Delport, who played his first match of the season, also played a gritty innings of 30 before giving away his wicket to offie Nathan Lyon, who ended up with the figures of 3/19 in his 4 overs.
