On the New Year eve, Adelaide Strikers sealed an emphatic win over Sydney Sixers by a big margin of 48 runs to register their first win of BBL 06.
The day started with Sixers inviting Strikers to bat first. Brad Hodge-led batting line-up had a decent start as he along with Jake Weatherald shared 37 runs for the first wicket before Weatherald was dismissed by Ben Dwarshuis. Ben Dunk and Hodge continued then fired 54 runs in next 32 balls to take the team close to 100 within 10 overs. Late contribution from Kieron Pollard aided by a time-consuming innings of 18 off 19 from Chris Jordan helped Strikers put up a total of 152 on the board. Sean Abbott was the pick of the bowlers for Sydney Sixers as he ended with figures of 5/16.
Sixers too had a similar start but the first dismissal affected by Ben Laughlin was enough to totter the confidence of their batting line-up as other batsmen followed Jason Roy which led to a flurry of wickets and half of the team was back in the pavilion at a score of 46. A win was now never in their reach and as expected, the other five batsmen were quick to follow back and the full team got bundled out on 104, thus losing the game by a margin of 48 runs.
Sean Abbott was bestowed with Man of the Match award for his impressive bowling but unfortunately it came in a losing cause.
