It couldn’t have been any better for the fans, who defied heavy rain and come to watch the contest between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers. It was a close contest where all-rounder Ashton Agar sent Aaron Finch for a flying six to finish off the game in style. Perth needed just nine runs to win the game in the last over and Aaron Finch decided to have a go at it. Scorchers needed just three runs to win the game on the last ball and Agar did it with a six, on the final ball of the game.

After winning the toss, Perth invited Melbourne to have a go and bat. Unlike we see in T20s, Melbourne did not rely on a one-man show, on the other hand, each of the top five batsmen made notable contributions to steer the team to a score of 148 in the allotted 20 overs of the innings.

Skipper Aaron Finch scored 24 runs in just 14 balls at a strike rate of 171.42 whereas Cameron White was the highest run scorer them by virtue of scoring 37 runs. The small contributions from players were probably the biggest weakness for them as a big inning from even one player would have made the difference for Melbourne, who were deprived this by the Scorchers bowlers.

Perth received a big boost with Shaun Marsh back in the team but he failed to provide a special start as Perth lost his wicket with just 36 runs on the board with 32 balls being bowled. Ian Bell was the next one to go by virtue of being run out.

Then came the moment when it looked like they will take the game away easily as a partnership of 59 between Michael Klinger and Mitchell Marsh forced Perth to believe that they will win the game but four wickets in a matter of just two overs put this team in deep trouble.

It was the six of the final delivery of the game which allowed the team to breathe freely as it was the only delivery in the matter of 40 overs that made the difference in the end.

Had Dwayne Bravo, who sustained an injury during the game, been fit for Melbourne, the scorecard would’ve shown a different result.
