England middle-order batsman James Vince will replace Eoin Morgan in Sydney Thunder Squad in the Big Bash League. Morgan, who will play his final match of this season on Wednesday night against Melbourne Stars, will leave for India to prepare for the ODI and T20s; starting January 15, 2016.
The left-handed batsman has scored 88 runs at an average of 22 in the four matches this season. The other day, his highest score of 52 against Brisbane Heat couldn’t guide his side to a win, as Sydney lost by two wickets. He, however, would like to finish his third stint with the Thunders on a high.
James Vince, the 25-year-old from Sussex has played seven Tests, five One Days and as many T20s for England and seemed excited to be a part of T20 league outside England. The right-handed batsman said he had a word with Morgan about playing in the BBL during the World T20 tournament in India early next year.
“I’ve watched the tournament back home over the past two or three years. The tournament has grown each year and it’s right up there as one of the best competitions in the world. I spoke with Eoin about the possibility of playing out here when we were at the World T20 earlier last year and luckily I’ve gotten the opportunity.”
Thunders have struggled to register even a point on the table as they have lost all of their four matches. However, Vince is looking to have a positive impact on the team.
“It’s not been an ideal start. I’m just going to try and contribute to winning a few games. I’ve enjoyed my experiences of playing here in the past, I think the pitches in Australia really suit my style”, he concluded.
