BBL 2018-19: Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes – Report. Hobart Hurricanes cruised to a comfortable win over the defending champions Adelaide Strikers in the 37th match of the ongoing Big Bash League 2018-19. The wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short scored fifties to take their side to 10-wicket win over the Strikers at Adelaide Oval.
Thus, Hobart Hurricanes have continued their domination in the ongoing season. This was their eighth win out of the nine matches and they sit pretty at the culmination of the points table. Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers won the toss and decided to bat first.
Adelaide Strikers didn’t get off to a good start when they lost the wicket of Jake Weatherald in the second over. Alex Carey scored a run-a-ball 28. However, the reigning champions lost two more wickets to find themselves three wickets down for 50 runs.
Meanwhile, Strikers captain Colin Ingram and Jonathan Wells added a crucial partnership of 66 runs. Ingram scored 67 runs from 36 balls with the help of half-a-dozen fours and three sixes in his blistering innings. However, both of them failed to finish the innings on a high.
On the other hand, James Faulkner and Jofra Archer scalped two wickets each to restrict Strikers for a score of 154 runs in 20 overs. Furthermore, Faulkner and Archer were both economical in their spells.
Faulkner who was the hero of the previous match, gave away only 24 runs in his four overs whereas Archer conceded only 23 runs in his allotted overs.
It was only one-way traffic in the second innings when Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short put on a carnage on the Strikers bowlers. Wade was the aggressor and scored runs at will. The left-handed pair added 158 for the opening stand and Hurricanes won with 19 balls remaining to continue their supremacy in the ongoing season.
Wade scored 84 runs from 49 balls as his innings constituted eight fours and three maximums. On the other hand, Short was not short of action on the other end. The left-hander amassed 52-ball 73 runs to be the perfect partner for Wade. In fact, Rashid Khan who is generally economical in his spell leaked 36 runs in his four overs without any success in the wickets column.
Hurricanes gloveman Matthew Wade received the Man of the match for his blistering knock of 84 runs.
