While playing for Perth Scorchers in the ongoing eighth edition of the Big Bash League (BBL 2018-19), Nathan Coulter-Nile has played a famed helicopter shot—to fetch maximum runs against Adelaide Strikers.
Coulter-Nile was facing his first ball of the innings–to take everyone by surprise with his aggressive approach.
The incident happened in the 15th over of Scorchers’ innings when Coulter-Nile was fresh to the crease. Following a wicket of Josh Inglis, who scored quickfire 55 off 37 balls, Coulter-Nile smashed a ball out of the park in style, and that covered 75-metre distance.
On the other side, Scorchers’ skipper Mitchell Marsh, who was on the mic stated, he has often seen him practising the shot in the nets.
Marsh, who was batting on run-a-ball 24, laughed out while having a brief chat with commentators during a live game. He went on to record a half-century for his team.
“Watching him bat, the way he had this summer because the whole winter I was obviously handling the injury. I watched him doing this in every net session,” Marsh revealed.
Siddle, who was bowling third over of his four-over quota tried to bowl short, but the ball was in Coulter-Nile’s zone—to find enough power as the ball sailed over the deep midwicket fence for a six.
However, Cameron Valente has dismissed Coulter-Nile. He slammed 25 off just eight deliveries with the help of three sixes and a four.
Scorchers post 174 for six at Adelaide Oval, but the Strikers chased down the target in 19.2 overs with the loss of five wickets.
Coulter-Nile also bagged two wickets after conceding 28 runs. However, while bowling the 18th over of Strikers’ innings, he suffered from vertigo between his over, before being taken to a nearby hospital.
Who’s has invented a helicopter shot?
The fact is Mahendra Singh Dhoni has invented this shot. Owing to an improvisation, Afghanistan prodigy Rashid Khan has shown the world what he is capable of by playing a helicopter shot. He repeated it during his stint with Strikers in the BBL.
Rashid who’s inspired by Dhoni smashed a six in the recently concluded T10 League in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, he was quick to dedicate the shot to Dhoni.
On the other side, Scorchers have performed poorly and are languishing at the bottom of the table. In 14 matches, Scorchers lost ten matches and registered a win in four games.
