Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has been handed one-match ban and fined Tk 20000 for breaching the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s players’ code of conduct during a BPL match between Rangpur Riders and Sylhet Super Stars on Thursday.

Rangpur Riders captain Shakib was reported by the on-field umpires Ranmore Martinesz and Tanvir Ahmed for using abusive language after dismissing Sylhet batsman Dilshan Munaweera in the fourth over of the match. He was handed suspension for using “offensive and abusive language” towards the umpire Tanvir in the 13th over of the Sylhet innings, when the umpire turned down an appeal for a wicket. The umpire was apparently shocked after listening Shakib’s words at the end of the over.

In the 13th over of the match bowler Thisara Perera sharply rising delivery past to wicketkeeper Mohammad Mithun the fielders close by made a huge appeal for caught behind the wicket. But umpire Tanvir turned down the appeal as there-there was no evident of nick.

Shakib went to Tanvir and there was the heated exchange between them in the middle of the pitch.

Asked to comment on the incident after the match, Shakib, who was adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his all-round performance, said, “These things happen. I really don’t want to talk about it.”

Shakib will miss the next BPL match against Comilla Victorians on Friday.

The BCB later has given a press release to the journalists that said Shakib admitted his offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Salim Shared, a formal hearing was not required.
