The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Monday (April 9), has announced that it would review the punishment handed to the two Second Division teams in 2017.

Both the teams had lost their games deliberately to make their displeasure felt over biased umpiring in the Dhaka Second Division League.

Jalal Yunus, the BCB media committee head, told the media that the punished teams have asked for reconsideration.

“We have received appeals from some of the players and clubs. I think Lalmatia have put in a request recently too, and one of the captains has also submitted a letter. We are going to sit for a review soon,” Yunus told reporters.

Last year in May, the board had come down hard on the players and the teams after the incident.

BCB banned two bowlers for 10 years after deliberately bowling numerous wides and no-balls. The board had also cancelled the affiliation of their clubs from the league.

On the other hand, Lalmatia Club’s Sujon Mahmud and Fear Fighters Sporting Club’s Tasnim Hasan career was ended after the board found them guilty of bringing disrepute to the game.

The game in question saw unusual incidents. In the very first over, Lalmatia’s Sujan sent down 13 wides and three no-balls. And all of them raced to the boundary, costing his side a total of 80 runs.

With the target being just 89, Axiom Cricketers reached 92-0 off just four balls. The remaining twelve runs came from Mustafizur Rahman’s three fours.

With the turn of events creating quite a shock in the cricketing circles, BCB formed a three-member inquiry committee.

However, during the probe, the committee found out that Tasnim of Fear Fighters conceded 69 runs off seven balls in a separate game. He bowled eight wides and six no-balls during his spell off 1.1 overs.

Lalmatia captain Faisal Ahmed, coach Asadullah Biplob, manager Adnan Rahman Fear Fighters captain Tanumay Ghosh and coach-cum-manager Anwarul Mustakim will remain suspended until 2022 as they failed to stop the incidents.

The board also banned umpires Shamsur Rahman and Azizul Bari, who were in the field during both matches, for six months.
