BCCI All Set To Adopt Lodha Recommendations Barring Five Reforms 1

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday (July 26), finally decided to implement the Lodha Committee recommendations barring five reforms.

At a special general meeting (SGM) that took place in Delhi, which was attended by all the members including the newly-inducted north-eastern states, the BCCI decided to end their long resistance to the recommendations put forward by the Supreme Court-appointed committee last year.

“The BCCI has adopted Lodha panel reforms except five,” said BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary after the meeting.

“It was unanimously decided by the members present during the meeting that it wasn’t possible to adopt certain reforms. A resolution has been passed and details will be submitted to the Supreme Court,” Choudhary added.

The five reforms which the BCCI found tough to accept are:

  • Matters pertaining to membership i.e retention of full membership structure as it stands now including Railways.
  • Distribution of powers and functions of executives.
  • Constitution of the nine-member Apex Council which replaces the existing 14-member working committee. The board is not too happy with the size of the council like it has one Vice President and it can’t cover the entire length and breadth of the country.
  • The strength of the national selection committee.
  • Restrictions on age and tenure and disqualification of government servants and ministers.

The board recently followed Supreme Court’s order to keep out former president N Srinivasan and ex-secretary Niranjan Shah from the SGM, as only state unit office-bearers, and not representatives, were allowed to attend the meeting. But at the same time, it also kept out CEO Rahul Johri, as he is a paid employee arguing that only office-bearers were allowed.
