BCCI allows Duleep Trophy players to join TNPL

In what comes as a big relief to the TNPL franchises, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allowed the Tamil Nadu players to participate in the inaugural edition Tamil Nadu premier league which is underway in the state.

“Additionally, players from the team that doesn’t qualify for the Duleep Trophy final will be allowed to join their respective franchise,” read a statement from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).

Tamil Nadu cricket Association thanked BCCI for allowing players to participate in TNPL “TNCA would like to thank BCCI for allowing the same and appreciates the support that the India Cements TN Premier League has received from multiple state associations from around the country,” the statement added.

BCCI has added a condition to their participation. Players are only allowed to participate if they are not picked in the playing XI of their respective lineup. Arun Karthik and Abhinav Mukund are the latest examples who played Duleep trophy as they were part of playing XI. But there is still a question which is unanswered?

Baba Aprajith who is part of India blue squad scored a century yesterday for his a franchise now has to travel to Greater Noida in order to India Blue squad. If he is picked then it’s OK but what if not picked? Will he travel back to the state covering a distance of 2475 KM.?

This question is still unanswered and needs to be answered. This is not the first time when BCCI has allowed to release players from the squad as last year we saw that BCCI released Indian players who were not part of playing XI and allowed them to play in Ranji trophy. But there are still two incidents in past when BCCI did not release players.

In 2012 BCCI did not release Parwinder Awana who was part of Test team but was not in the final squad. DDCA even wrote a letter to BCCI requesting to release Awana but BCCI did not agree.

The second instance took place when Cheteshwar Pujara was not released from ODI squad when Indian was facing England in January 2013. Saurashtra lost the final of Ranji Trophy to Mumbai by an innings.

Let’s come out of past and appreciate BCCI for this step.

Baba Aparajith, Dinesh Karthik, Arun Karthik, Murugan Ashwin, Abhinav Mukund and Murali Vijay are a part of the various teams in the Duleep Trophy.
