The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday (August 30), announced the schedule and the teams for the upcoming edition of the Duleep Trophy. Initially, the board had shelved the idea of hosting the traditional curtain-raiser of India’s domestic season due to a busy schedule but changed the plan after former former captain Sourav Ganguly’s intervention and Committee of Administrators’ insistence.
“We were told that Duleep Trophy was not on the [domestic] schedule, but we thought it is an important engagement and should not be dropped so we have asked them to restore it. And, it has been restored,” CoA chairman Vinod Rai was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
The BCCI, meanwhile, also confirmed that the tournament will be played with the pink ball under the lights for the second year in a row. The upcoming tournament will be played from September 7th to 29th at Kanpur and Lucknow. Lucknow’s newly-built International Cricket Stadium will host two matches, including the final, while Kanpur will host two round-robin games. The three league games will be a four-day affair while the final, scheduled to be played from September 25, will be a five-day contest.
