The 50-year old, who is also Ravichandran Ashwin’s childhood coach, will be handed a one-year term and join Virat Kohli & Co. in Sri Lanka before the start of second Test (August 3-7, 2017) in Colombo.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday appointed former first class cricketer Sunil Subramanian as the administrative manager of Team India (Senior Men),” the BCCI said in a statement.
“Subramanian has 285 wickets to his name from 74 matches in first class cricket. He captained Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy and is a National Cricket Academy (NCA) certified coach. He also has a rich vein of experience when it comes to management and administrative capabilities having served both public and private sector organisations for over 16 years,” the statement added.
Earlier this week, the BCCI had conducted interviews of 12 candidates for the post. Out of those, the board had shortlisted five candidates whose resumes were then sent to acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai. Recently, India also appointed Ravi Shastri as the head coach and was looking for a manager since then.
