The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has paid an amount of Rs. 2.2 Crore to Mohammad Shami as compensation for the loss which he suffered in IPL 2015. This detail has been revealed by BCCI itself on its official website.
Mohammad Shami missed the 2015 season of IPL due to a knee injury which he suffered during World cup 2015 played in Australia and New Zealand. It is said that Shami was in pain throughout the tournament but still he decided to continue for team’s sake. He was one of the responsible and senior bowlers of the Indian team. Shami played in 7 out of 8 matches played by team India in the world cup. The right arm pacer scalped 17 wickets during the mega event and was fourth highest wicket taker of the tournament.
But after the World cup, he could not tolerate the pain and then had to miss the IPL. He then underwent a knee operation and subsequently sat out for almost 7 months. After a period of almost 7 months, he returned to domestic cricket and played for Bengal. Soon after his return in domestic cricket, he was called to the Indian cricket team which travelled to Australia for five matches ODI series and 3 matches T20 series earlier this year. He travelled to Australia but soon returned before the start of the series as he suffered an injury there too.
He again underwent an operation and then was selected for T20 World cup 2016 but did not get a single game as Jasprit Bumrah was preferred over him.
Mohammad Shami is the part of the Indian team that has travelled to West Indies to play four Test matches series. This tour will surely tell us that whether Shami is fit for the upcoming long home season or not.
