The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to retire jersey number 10 from international cricket, a report in The Indian Express suggests.
The matter could have not even come into limelight had Shardul Thakur not wearing the jersey on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in August. The people took a note of it and started trolling the fast bowler on his debut.

“It unnecessarily creates controversy and players get criticised. So it’s better to retire the number unofficially. Players, though, can wear it when they play for India A or for say a non-international list A match but not during an international,” an official told The IndianExpress.
Sachin Tendulkar, who called it quit from international cricket in 2013, had worn jersey number 10 during his illustrious career. The last time he wore the jersey was on March 18 in 2012 against Pakistan during the Asia Cup game where he played an innings of 52 off 48.
In December same year, he announced his retirement from ODI cricket and thus, he never wore the coloured jersey again at the international level. In the following year, he played his last game against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium.

He was there in the squad for the ODI series against Australia and New Zealand but didn’t find a place in playing XI, so people could take a note of the change which has brought about.
Since, he is not a member of the side that will take on Sri Lanka in three-match ODI series, again, the people would not know that he has changed his jersey number and now it will be after a break of few months that this thing would come into notice.
It is probably the first time in the history of cricket when a cricket board had to take such a step of its kind.
