Ranji Trophy 2019-20: BCCI to Introduce DRS in Semi-Finals And Final

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a step further in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2019-20 season to improve the skills of the player. The board has decided to introduce the Decision Review System (DRS) in the semi-final and finals of Ranji Trophy.

As per the rules of ICC, teams are allowed two reviews in the longest format of cricket. But BCCI has permitted four reviews to each team instead of two.

However, the players will not get that much assistance from DRS like to the extent in the international platform. There will be limited use of DRS with no snicko, hot-spot, and the ball-tracker. Only, slow-motion view and a pitch map will be provided to the third umpire.

“In each innings, each team will be allowed to make a maximum of four-player reviews. Where a request for a player review results in the original on-field decision being reversed, then the player review shall be categorized as successful and shall not count towards the innings limit,” said a release from the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA).

DRS is a part of the preparation:

While talking to TOI, a BCCI official expressed the reason behind the introduction of DRS in domestic cricket.

“The reason why each team is being allowed our player reviews per innings is that the players aren’t used to using the DRS at the domestic level. This will help them prepare to use the technology at the international level,”BCCI official said.

“I welcome the BCCI’s decision. The Board should use DRS or the semifinals and finals of all its important tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy,” said SCA president Jaydev Shah.

Meanwhile, the semi-final of Ranji Trophy will get underway from 29th February. Saurashtra and Gujrat will compete at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot whereas, another clash will be between Karnataka and Bengal at Eden Gardens.
