BCCI Files Complaint after Delhi Cricketers Deceived of Rs 80 Lakh over Ranji selection
Three young Delhi cricketers had allegedly paid Rs 80 lakh on the promise that they would get a chance in the Ranji Trophy teams of three states but got fake selection letters. Meanwhile, a case regarding which has been lodged after Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) filed a police complaint, officials said on Wednesday.
A case of the same has been registered after BCCI’s regional integrity manager of its Anti Corruption Unit Anshuman Upadhyay admitted that he received complaints about the same. The name of the complainants were Kanishk Gaur and Kishan Attri of Rohini and Shivam Sharma from Gurgaon. A man allegedly duped them of Rs 80 Lakhs assuring them of giving them a Ranji Trophy berth. The police said that the alleged person confirmed them of Ranji Trophy spots for teams likes Nagaland, Manipur, and Jharkhand.
Gaur told police that a cricket coach approached him last year who offered him to play in the Ranji Trophy team of Nagaland as a guest player, a senior police officer said. He later called him to meet the official coach of the Nagaland cricket team and some members of their board. The also asked him to pay Rs 15 lakhs for five games, the police officer added.
However, after playing two matches for the under-19 team of Nagaland, the authorities asked him not to take any further part. Meanwhile, when he inquired, they told him that his selection letter was not real, the officer said. Around eleven people, including coaches as well as state cricket board members, are being questioned in connection with the case, police said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), however, is yet to make any comments regarding the same.
