BCCI to Hold Important Meeting after NADA Pressure

As the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has urged to have Team India under its sphere, the national cricket body Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to hold the all-important meeting on November three.

The response came after one of the unnamed India cricketers dope-test was found positive, according to the recently released report of 2016 by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

“BCCI, in any case, is fighting so many legal battles! But seriously, NADA officials think that they will just land up at IPL or Ranji Trophy and force a BCCI registered cricketer to undergo the dope test. We didn’t know it was this simple,” senior official for BCCI told PTI.

The decision came after the NADA mounted pressure – to take control over the national team owing to the time-time test under the constitution of World Anti Doping Agency (WADA).

In known of the recent development, a BCCI official revealed BCCI could not dope test players under any external force while referring to the NADA.

“BCCI is not a signatory to NADA code and therefore under no compulsion to release our cricketers for the dope test,” senior official privy to the news added.

However, the BCCI is highly unlikely to surrender before the demands of the NADA, as the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) are meeting in Mumbai to discuss the national cricket and it would be the highlight of the topics after BCCI stood firm on its stand.

After the CoA was framed to observe the activities of the BCCI in the first instance, as NADA wants to enforce the ‘whereabouts clause’ about the players, who are representing India under the ambit of BCCI itself.

However, according to the reports, NADA top-brass expressed BCCI must work in tandem with the Anti-Doping organization to eradicate the menace and maintain the fair play in the field of sports.

“Testimony to our transparent process is the latest WADA report where 153 of our cricketers were tested ‘In Competition’ and ‘Out of Competition’ and there was only one dope positive result,” BCCI official maintained.

Pertinently, BCCI is featuring under the ambit of the world cricket governing body which gets all the professional players tested under the banner of World Anti-Doping Agency as ICC is the signatory to the WADA itself.

“We are under ICC, which is WADA compliant. At ICC events, our cricketers are tested by WADA. But since we are not a National Sports Federation (NSF), we are under no obligation to become NADA signatory,” an official remarked.

In the layman’s language, the NADA believes in taking BCCI under its domain to rule the roost which could breach the privacy according to the top-level players.

However, to test the samples, the Board has already taken Sweden-based International Drug Test Management from Management (IDTM) into the service.

Moreover, the Whereabouts clause is information which a player is bound to provide owing to the anti-doping procedures be it the International Sports Federation (ISF) or the country-based National Anti-Doping Organization.

VIDEO OF THE DAY:

The development had further grabbed the eyeballs when reports emerged that NADA is likely going to send its members to take stock of the domestic fixtures while revealing they can even opt for the legal route if the BCCI would fail to assist.
