Cricket fans might be disappointed to know that India’s annual cricket festival — Indian Premier League (IPL) start date might be changed for the 13th edition of the lucrative league. Pertinently, the IPL 2020 was supposed to start from March 29 but now it might see a new kick-off date.

In January, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has said that IPL will start on March 29 and will come to a close on May 24. While he also informed that there will only be five doubleheaders on the given day.

BCCI to reschedule IPL 2020 kick-off date?

Meanwhile, According to TOI reports, a source closed to this development said that the start date of the much-awaited tournament would be relooked by India’s board representative at the ICC and ICC meetings, which is yet to be confirmed.

“Once there’s clarity on who’ll be India’s board representative at ICC, that individual will also have to be at the ICC meetings. They’ll have to take a re-look at the starting date of the IPL once again,” the sources told TOI.

However, the date and venue of the next ICC CEC meeting is yet to be finalised.

A change in the IPL 2020:

In the upcoming edition, BCCI has proposed some changes in the popular T20 game. While it will be a first IPL under the new BCCI supremo Sourav Ganguly.

Notably, there will be only five doubleheaders this time, unlike other editions. Timings for the double-headers will be 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Interestingly, the concussion substitute and ‘third umpire no-ball’ will also be introduced in IPL for the first time.

There is an introduction to IPL All-Stars Games which will be held three days before the start of the main game. While the venue is still to be finalised.

However, there were reports that the biggest cricket ground, which is under construction, Motera will host the first IPL game. But the ground is still not ready to host the popular tournament.
