BCCI did not communicate with players while appointing Kumble as coach: Reports
There is no end to all the controversies surrounding the appointment of Anil Kumble as the head coach of Indian cricket team. Now according to a report published in Times of India, it is said that the leading members of the Indian team were not communicated while making a choice for the head coach. TOI also adds that the public statement given by Ravi Shastri backing the test captain to lead in all formats of the game misfired and was the main factor behind Shastri not been appointed as the coach.
Shastri was appointed as the director of Indian cricket team during India tour to England in 2014 and went on to coach India till world cup 2016. When BCCI advertised for the post of head coach of Indian team, he was also in the fray and was quite hopeful that he may be made that the coach of Indian team citing his better communication and relation with the test captain Virat Kohli. Also under him, Indian team performed well. But he went empty handed when the head coach was announced.
He did not control himself and said that he is very disappointed with the snub.
Shastri was probably the best choice for the coach until Kumble applied for the post, though Kumble does not have any experience of coaching a team but yes he had been the mentor of Mumbai Indians and Royal challengers Bangalore in the past. His experience and his success at international level backed his cause.
The appointment of Kumble has come up with a surprise to Shastri as he says that Sourav Ganguly was not present during his interview and he wished that Dada was there. Sources also reveal that Anil Kumble was the first choice of Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin backed his choice by quoting that Indian team have failed to win two world cups played under Shastri and also the record of the Indian team on foreign under Shastri have not been changed. The board had no answers to the issues raised by Sachin Tendulkar so Kumble was appointed as the coach.
Yesterday, BCCI announced that Sanjay Bangar and Abhay Sharma will also travel with the team. Bangar is appointed as the batting coach whereas Sharma is appointed as fielding coach of the team.
