The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cleared the payment of Indian women cricket team players and support staff. As per a release made by the board, the payment was made on July 27 at a function organised in New Delhi, as soon as the team returned from England. However, the board officially announced a prize of 50 Lakhs whereas the balance sheet shows an amount of 45 Lakhs

The Mithali Raj led squad qualified for the finals of the tournament after two editions. They were favourites to win the trophy looking at their performance in the league stage. The Indian team put a strong foot forward in the final when bowlers bowled out England on a mere total of 228.

Though India did not have a good start after fall of Smriti Mandhana’s early wicket but the pair of Punam Raut and Harmanpreet Kaur kept the team afloat. At one stage, visitors were on a score of 191/3 and from there, England made a comeback in the game to bowl out India on 219 to clinch the trophy.
Despite India losing the game, there were all praises for the team and the board was quick to announce the cash prize for the team.
The Women in Blue were also felicitated by Sports Minister of India Vijay Goel and also had a meeting with PM Narendra Modi, who had a special message for the team.
The success of India in the World Cup has given a hope to women’s cricket and we might see the board also taking some steps towards the betterment of the game.
