The Board of Control for Cricket in India has provided an injury update on opening batsman Prithvi Shaw and fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The swing master had traveled to London and underwent surgery. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was ruled out of series against West Indies as he suffered a back injury. Kumar had successful surgery in London and will begin his rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
In fact, Bhuvneshwar’s injury had come under the scanner as it was not properly handled by the team management and NCA. On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw had suffered a shoulder injury while playing for Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. The young prodigy batsman has recovered and he will travel to New Zealand to join India A squad.
Kumar’s injury was not properly handled.
BCCI said in a media release, “Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar traveled to London on 9th January and underwent a successful sports hernia surgery on 11th January. He was assisted by Team India physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar. Bhuvneshwar will now return to India and commence his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru”.
“Opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has completed his rehab at the NCA and has recovered from his left shoulder injury. He has been made available for selection for all formats of the game. Prithvi has left for New Zealand and will soon join India A”.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar will not like to hurry out of the injury this time. Kumar will like to properly return before making a return to competitive cricket. On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw will like to be at the top of his game on the tour of New Zealand. Shaw has the experience of playing in the New Zealand conditions and he would look to hit the ground running.
Consequently, if Shaw performs up to the mark, he could be in the reckoning as a third opener for the Indian senior Test team for the tour of New Zealand.
