In a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering a pay hike for domestic cricketers and match officials, both the national and the junior selectors have also requested a hike in their salaries.
The BCCI has received a few proposals on how the pay structure should look like and it was recently submitted by a member in touch with the junior selection panel. Presently the senior selection committee members bags Rs. 60 lakh per season while the junior selection committee gets Rs 40 lakhs per month. The pay structure has remained the same since 2012 and is expected to be revised sooner than later.
“Yes, we have received multiple proposals with regards to the revision of pay for national selectors. One of the points raised by a number of people is that chairman of both selection committees should get more than other members as the job profile carries more responsibility,” a BCCI official, whose name cannot be revealed was quoted as saying by the PTI.
The official whose name cannot be revealed informed that the proposal had asked the chairman of the senior selection committee to be paid Rs. 1.20 cores exactly double the amount which they are getting now. The BCCI might not accept the idea and might be more keen on giving 30 to 35 percent hike from what they are getting at present.
“After five seasons when there hasn’t been salary revision, if there is a demand for a hike, it is justified,” the official was quoted as saying. Meanwhile, Team India is busy playing a 3 match Test series in Sri Lanka and are leading the series by a 1-0 margin. The Islanders were thrashed by a huge margin of 304 runs in the opening Test at Galle and is currently dominating the 2nd Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
It will be a monumental task for the hosts to stage a comeback in the 2nd Test after conceding more than 600 runs to India in the 1st innings. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane smashed centuries to put India in a commanding position.
