BCCI's 1st annual conclave begins in Dharamsala

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to shift the National Cricket Academy (NCA) out of Bangalore as plans for expansion took a hit due to failure to get state land. BCCI announced that.

The NCA was set up in 2000, which aimed at training potential players for the national squad. Reports suggest that BCCI will consider the state associations which can provide them adequate land to set up a bigger and better base. It is expected that the NCA will go through loads of improvement, for which more land area was required. But the failure to get the necessary means the academy will be shifted out of Bangalore

According to sources, it was decided, after a meeting of the NCA Board in Bangalore on Sunday. A Board official said, “The infrastructure will be funded and run by the BCCI. However, the association must ensure that it gets the land after signing a long-term lease with the state government for it. If that condition is satisfied, a BCCI team will inspect the venue to check how feasible it is looking at weather conditions there.”

Currently, former Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble is the Chairman of the academy. The NCA has developed many players who went on to represent the national side for years. The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and co. have all been trained the prestigious academy.

The NCA also has ties with Cricket Australia and England Cricket Board, who helps the academy grow. Over that, NCA also will tie up MRF Pace Foundation for the training of fast bowlers within the country. NCA Board also discussed the idea of launching an indoor academy there for budding cricketers.
