The world’s richest cricket board (BCCI) is all set to get around 10,000 crores in the ongoing round (2024-27) of the media rights sale. A final decision on the media rights is likely to be taken in ICC’s next meeting scheduled in June. According to close sources, ICC confirmed that the BCCI’s influence will increase and return in their increased revenue share.

The media rights for the next in what India and the rest contribute to the International Cricket Council (ICC)  is set to have a major effect following the (2024-27) media rights sale. Indian broadcasters have already shelled out $3 billion for the rights on a four-year deal, which was finalised on August 2022.

The remaining regions of the globe, have reportedly had a worth of approximately $500 million for media rights, and according to the officials, the figure is going to increase by 37% of the final valuation that has been discussed in last month’s ICC meeting.

According to the reports, with the increase in final valuation, the BCCI would be getting something around a whopping  $1.3 billion (around 10,000 crores) more than the 22% (US$ 405 million, eight years) they currently getting for the media rights.

With no competition in the region of the UK and South African market–ICC has extended its contract with Sky Sports and SuperSport for a long term of eight years until 2031. According to reports, the Sky deal is sealed at $300 million and England Cricket Board is set to receive the second biggest share from the International Cricket Council.

While a lot of discussion among office-bearers happened during the last month’s ICC meeting, a suggestion was that felt that the team’s on-field performance must be given attention in addition to the media rights market share, before arriving at the final numbers.

“It was proposed that the last fifteen year’s performance of teams at ICC events should be considered. But some felt that would be unfair to those who have raised the bar recently, and only past five years showing should be factored in,” a member board official said as per Hindustan Times.

Besides, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka rights are yet to be sealed, as per ICC officials in the know.
